  1. Adobe XD Integration

    Is it possible to integrate it with XD files? It would be very useful to make some Iphone X mockup using images from my Adobe XD.

      Definitely possible! Are you thinking something in Dimension where you pick a device 3D model then connect an XD doc to the screen?

      Would you want anything particular there functionality wise inside of Dimension?

    • Metal edge reflectance

      Dimensions would benefit from proper edge reflectance for metals. Right now once something is fully metallic, the reflection color is uniform without regard to incidence angle. But that's now how metals are in the real world, the metal's color shifts to a desaturated version of the primary color. This is something many applications do. the edge reflectance follows the fresnel equation with something like 1.3 IOR for curve shape. Without this metals look flat and incorrect to the eye of someone who does 3D work and knows about this physical property.

      • Import new object to same X,Y,Z orientation as current selection

        Here is the proposed workflow:
        1. Select an object in Dimension that you've placed
        2. Go up to File>import> 3D Object and click to start the import process
        3. Imported object is set at the exact coordinates of the previously selected object, and is now the selected object in your scene.
        4.You can now make minor X,Y,Z location changes to the new object in order to have it match your vision of the composition.

        Current process
        1. write down all of the coordinates for your currently selected object.
        2. Go up to File>import> 3D Object and click to start the…

          Thanks for the suggestion! Very interesting. I’m curious what the core thing you’re trying to do is, though.

          Do you want it to import to the same location so that it’s visible because your camera is looking one way and it’s importing behind you? Or is it more about composition, like you’re placing it near that object so want to start there?

          Currently we always import objects to the origin of the scene (0,0,0) because different objects might be broken into pieces but intended to align that way. Some other options could be:
          - Import to selection as you described above
          - Import to center of current view
          - Not at import but have additional controls for “move to this object” or “center to my view” type of functionality.

          Lots possible here, and none of it is particularly hard, so more understanding the why you want this.

        • OBJ import scale

          There needs to be an import scale option for OBJ. Right now my OBJ files are coming into Dimensions HUGE and I have to scale them down.

            More import options other than an .obj

            I've loaded a 173 meg. file it opened but the program didn't function very well. May be my machine. I'm looking for an alternative to Showcase by Autodesk.

            • Able to set a default 'landing' location for imported objects.

              When I import 3D models from Photoshop created OBJ files they currently place at seeming random coordinated at wildly different sizes. Being able to set a default set of coordinates and limiting the height of imported images would save time just getting it to the centre of the screen when importing a new object.

              • Ability to fill objects with simulated liquid.

                Being able to add simulated liquid into my objects would be a real time saver. I'm currently placing a slightly scaled down copy inside of the original bottle with a cut out where I want to liquid level to be. This works fine until the bottle is placed at any kind of angle and the liquid remains perfectly level, which isn't very realistic.

                • Ability to copy/import models between Dimension files.

                  Being able to save a model to my Adobe Library and place it into any Dimension scene I create would be great. At the moment I'm creating all of my clients products in a single scene, which is a lot of asset and layer juggling when I'm piecing a new project together. Being able to just drag and drop one from my library into a scene as/when I need it would be a real quality of life update.

                  • Decals as smart objects when rendering to PSD files.

                    One of my client has multiple products with the same bottle but different labels. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be nice to explore having the decal of a rendered model become its own smart object when rendering to a PSD file. Switching the image in the smart object out for each new product as opposed to rendering the same products over and over with a different label would be a real time saver.

                    • High quality decals.

                      Having the decals render at their full resolution would be great. The rest of the model renders in flawlessly and looks fantastic, so really happy with the software there, but it is unfortunately held back by the decal quality which is almost always blurry and grainy, even when rendering at 32bit high quality with very high resolution files created in Illustrator.

                      My clients love the prospect of using renders as their primary product pictures and even included them in their advertising material. Unfortunately the quality of the decals on the products are the only things turning them away from the…

                      • The ability to assign the GPU as primary rendering hardware.

                        Currently limited to rendering only via my CPU. While it meets the requirements for using the program the rendering times are still very long and being able to allocate my GPU to the task would speed up times substantially while keeping my machine usable via the CPU.

                              Curious how often you use this. Is it just to quickly get to landscape/portrait or do you often want the exact same resolution just oriented differently? Photoshop definitely does a lot more image setup, so not sure how important this will be in Dimension for the larger crowd, but curious to hear peoples thoughts!

                            • short rendering lighting

                              In vectorworks, Daz studio and others, putting up lights is easier. A light is an object you can move around, point, and alter the properties of directly, and you can put many of them into the composition. You can throw a switch to turn them on or off, and see a basic idea of the changes almost immediately. Most of this requires greater graphics card support, so perhaps as an "If graphics card is not cpu" then this is active kind of thing. DAZ has an IRAY render mode that works very fast when you have nvidia or similar graphics…

                              • Texturing support from Daz, marvelous and unity obj files

                                I'd love to see better texture support coming from DAZ, Unity, Marvelous Designer. Support for a zipped file set would be awesome. 7-zip is a great place to start for that, as they maintain their repository of developer source rather well. I've seen a lot of software implement 7-zip as a backend zip access. Baking in textures and such is very important in compositing.

                                        • Material linking by default

                                          Materials with the same name (for say a duplicated object) need to be linked BY DEFAULT. The current behavior of duplicating an object and having materials that are independent is a super bad problem. Right now if a change is made to one, you have to go link other instances and that's just tedious and painful.
