Thanks for the suggestions on multiple decals everyone! This is something we have planned. We’re also looking at better ways to support full-object wraps such as converting dielines to 3D objects directly. There’s another discussion on that idea here: http://projectfelix.uservoice.com/forums/552559/suggestions/20357320

I’d love to know if multiple decals would suit your needs or if something more specific (like the dielines to 3D) would be better.

Thank you for the suggestion! We definitely plan on supporting both .ai and .svg files locally for images. Please note that there is a separate discussion for extruding shapes into 3D.

        http://projectfelix.uservoice.com/forums/552559/suggestions/31410262

Since this is for us to notify you guys on status, let’s keep the ideas separate. This one will be for supporting the AI file type, and the other is creating 3D extrusions from vectors.

      • .igs/.iges, .sat, .smt and .stp/.step

These would be VERY helpful for those of us working in a Engineering Department. Engineers create models and we Technical Illustrators would love to make use of those models. Right now our option is a VERY EXPENSIVE Keyshot program. Bu we already have Adobe CC so it would be a great fit! So, PLEASE add support for at least these. Then later we'll bug you about native support for popular Solid Modeling Programs like SolidWorks and SolidEdge.

        • .stp STEP file import

Dimension would be much more useful if it could import standard cad formats such as .stp files.

          • Package Design - Create 3D Model from Dyeline/Blueprint

I'd like to be able to build a product package from a dieline created in Illustrator, fold it along specific lines, give it a UV gloss on parts, add foiling and embossing where required.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’d love to know more about what people think about this as it’s something we’ve explored at a high level. Would you expect to edit the dyeline at all or have smart object linking with Illustrator, etc?

            • Liquid Creation

When importing 3d models such as bottles, it would be nice if Adobe Dimension could add a liquid fill feature so that the bottle can represent a real beverage or condiment product.

Can we have special printing effects simulated over the packaging designs - like UV, Foil, Embossing.... it would be excellent!

                • Combine/Subtract Models (Booleans)

Booleans are the 3D equivalent of pathfinder, allowing you to take two shapes and combine or subtract their volumes from each other. For example, taking a cube then using a cylinder to 'cut' a hole through the cube.

                  • beveled or carved letters

it would be awesome if we can create beveled/embossed letters for signage. especially letters carved into a surface with a v-cut (like in roman carved letters).

it doesn't even need to be a live text tool, just enable the software to use vector art for 3d art, and we will create the vector in iilustrator and import it to the library.

                    • change object size/dimensions without distorting graphics.

Currently if I modify an object the placed graphic (whether it has already be placed or will be placed later) becomes distorted, this is wildly frustrating. All I would like to do is use the plane surface and put a graphic on it and the plane be the same size as the graphic, as far as I can tell, and this includes plenty of time with support, this is not possible.

                      • 360 decal on a sphere

For now its impossible to make a complete 360 layer around a sphere. It would be great to have the opportunity to stretch .ai files to fit 360 perfectly. Working at a ball company this is essential. Today using 3DMax just for this feature and would like to shift to Dimension if the feature is available ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, very interesting workflow. I’m curious here, when you do this with 3ds Max, what method are you using? For the example graphic you made, is that the texture made based on UVs or is that a template that you send to the printer, etc? Some details here would be great, the team is really interested by this example.

                        • Environment Object Models for Animation

Created 3D props should have the ability to be exported to After Effects, Character Animator, or Photoshop Vanishing Point in order to be used as scene props in animation. This would be amazingly helpful when attempting to create multi-camera shots of the same scene without having to reanimate the angles/perspective of 2D objects. Dynamic linking could allow for DImension, Fuse and After Effects cameras to create real-time 3D environments for modeling and animation. Lastly, you guys rock! Thank you for all of your hard work!

Thank you for the suggestion! Just to clarify with a specific ask, you’re looking for an export format of some type that would save your entire 3D scene in a way that could be read and shared between Dimension/After Effects, for example. Is that correct?

                            • 3D Model Effects (twist, bend, shatter)

Effects are used on a model to change the basic shape in some manner. Common examples are twist, bend, and shatter.

                                • Importing files from Revit software

It would be great if this could work to import a file from Revit (.dwx, .dwf, .nsw) so we could use for Architectural rendering. Please let me know if there is already a way to do this. Love all the Adobe programs I currently use (Ps, Id, Lr, Ai) and look forward to hopefully getting to utilize Dimension as well!

                                      • Use .dn file in other applications like InDesign and Illustrator

Would it be possible to import a Dimension file into InDesign and place it like pictures from PhotoShop, and when published as a PDF it would render the right size of file that would fit screen or print resolution? In that way you didn't have to decide on the final render size in Dimension and waste time on different render sizes.

Interesting suggestion. We could definitely have the scene exposed in a way that you could load it dynamically into another application like Ps/Ai, etc. and render out a version of the image at the right size. However, these apps don’t have the rendering engine that Dimension does, so unless you do a longer render, it would just look like our canvas or something similar, not a final quality.

Would that be what you’re looking for or at that time would you want to be able to link it to Dimension to do the render and give you the final result at the right resolution?
