  1. Apply Textures to existing UV Space

When I am importing a model that I previously created in C4D, the textures applied in Dimension do not inherit the UV Mapping that is already present. So a texture being applied to a cylinder with a slight inclination results in the texture wrapping to an incorrect ratio, resulting in what can be seen in the attached image. Image of original C4D model with UV Mapping is attached

If you apply a graphic as a separate layer it uses a floating ‘decal’ projection. If you want to apply a texture to the original UVs you currently need to double click on the model to select the material then apply the texture to the base color.

In the future graphic layers will have a fill mode that can be used to apply to the entire model. This is planned for our next release in 2019.

  2. Toggle placed decals visibility

Toggle placed decals visibility in a stack to see different graphics variations on the same surface.

    Hi!
    Thanks for the suggestion!
Dimension 2.0 has the option to hide/unhide all scene objects, including decals.
The way to do this is, go to the scene panel, hover over the decal name that you want to hide, and click on the visibility icon to hide and unhide the layer.
Let us know what you think!

    Cheers,
    Srujani

  3. Selecting individual model pieces

This program is awesome. The only thing I need is the ability to import a complex models and be able to select each piece individually. If this can be achieved, please advise me how.
    Thanks.

Yes, this is possible today. If you create a model with multiple parts then the .obj format will preserve those and they will be selectable in Dimension.

One note is that every 3D program exports to .obj differently so you may need to look up tutorials for your application to preserve parts when saving to .obj.

  4. Undo Camera Moves

When I hit control Z, it did not undo my camera move. Would be awesome to include camera moves as an undoable step.

You can undo and redo your camera movements, but it does use a different shortcut to prevent you from accidentally moving your camera when trying to undo an action.

The undo shortcuts are Function < and Function > or you can find them in the Edit menu.

  5. Select areas by 'drawing' with Magic Wand Tool

Select areas with the Magic Wand Toll by "drawing" not just clicking.

  6. Save Partial In-Progress Renders

Would like to be able interrupt and save a render at it's current state, or have menu options easily available to do so.

  7. Better performance for high polygon objects

Please optimize the viewport for high poly models.
I get .obj data from my customer that are relatively complex
what causes that Dimensions performace at working with the models isn't really possible :-(

    BTW: Rendering works fine.

  9. A short pop-up by completing render process

I usually do something else while rendering a scene, so it would be great if you add a simple pop-up by completing a rendering process.

Hello! When a render is complete you should get both an in-app and an OS level notification. However, notifications don’t hang around for too long, they just pop up for a second or two. Are you not seeing a notification when completing a render?

  10. Render Objects Below the Ground Plane

I need to render objects that intersect the ground plane. I have an object that would be partially underground and when I composite it with an aligned background image there is no way to render anything that is below the ground plane

  11. Enter Camera Coordinates Manually

Maybe this already exists, but I have a camera position in Photoshop 3D that I would like to recreate exactly in Dimension. Is there a way to export camera positions from Photoshop to Dimension? Or even to be able to add the coordinates manually?

    Thanks!

    Ernie

Yes, camera coordinates have been available in-app since our first Beta release.

You can find them by selecting the Environment and scrolling down to the bottom of the properties panel to the area called camera perspective. Here you’ll find Field of View, Position, and Rotation values.

  12. Copy/Paste images from other apps

The ability to copy and paste any image from Illustrator, Photoshop, Google, and any other app! Copy/Paste should work from general clipboard for images.

  13. Native Support for Susbtance Materials

It would be great if you could easily import and add to the Assets panel, Substance materials built in Substance Painter / Designer.

As of Dimension 2.2 (released April 2, 2019) we now support importing Substance materials in .sbsar format. Not all substance materials will be supported fully (for example Dimension does not yet have displacement support). We’ll continue to work on supporting more Substance material types and properties in the future!

  14. Toggle tool movement relative to object or ground plane. (Transform Space)

It would be good to toggle the movement controls so they act relative to either the selected object or the ground plane.

Once an object has been tilted and placed it is hard to then move it perfectly horizontal to the ground plane, or rotate it to face a new direction. Currently you have to use a combination of x, y, z movements to zig-zag the object to the desired location.

Unity uses a toggle to switch between these controls, the ground plane option resetting every time it's selected.

This functionality is already available in Dimension. You can find it in the Tool Options (just above the canvas in the top-left) and the option is called Align to Scene. When that is toggled on it will realign your widgets for Move and Rotate to be aligned to the scene. We currently don’t allow world scaling to prevent object skewing.

  15. Need more 3D Model Options at Adobe Stock

The app can become really helpful if we can have a more extensive library at Adobe Stock. For example, I am looking for a slim rectangular box to create some packaging and unfortunately there are only 21 options coming up when I search for box. These are very limited options.
Even the choice of materials is also very limited.

Thank you for the feedback. Since this isn’t a feature or task that can really be measured I’m going to just mark this as done. The 3D collection is still very new and we are working hard to expand the amount of models that are available there.

  16. Invert zoom option

Please add scroll inversion to the options. As someone who primarily works in Illustrator and Photoshop, the zoom being inverted on the mouse wheel makes me zoom out when I want to zoom in too often.

  18. custom 3D Model guidelines/instructions or tutorials

Me and some colleagues have been modeling in Cinema 4D and sketchup. Importing the obj files we export is not/sometimes a problem. It's a trial and error proces, mostly error.

From sketchup we get errors sometimes about UVs. And on both the sketchup and the cinema 4D models decals don't work or produce unexpected results.

Could you provide some guidelines or instructions on creating models for use in Dimension CC.

Or make the import proces better.

You can see what image based light is applied by selecting the Environment in the Scene panel. In the environment properties you’ll see a thumbnail of the image applied as the light under the Environment Light section.

Let me know if this suits your needs or if you’re looking for something more here.

  20. Closing individual panels

I think It would be cool if the panels had a way of closing. like the red, yellow, green buttons. I currently have the "Background" panel displayed but I am not sure how to close it.

Hmm, Dimension doesn’t have a background panel, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Currently in Design Mode there are 5 panels: Assets, Creative Cloud Libraries, Scene, Actions, and Properties.

Each of these panels can be opened and closed using the triangle disclosure icon at the top-right corner of the panel. Panels also have sections which can be collapsed and expanded using the triangle at the top-right corner of each section.
