  1. Custom Light Objects

    Lighting in Project Felix is currently handled through the Environment and Sunlight objects. Custom light objects would allow studio setups, with area lights that can be positioned, sized, rotated, colored, and set at varying intensities.

      Lighting is such an exciting topic because it’s critical for both photorealism and unlocks such potential for creativity. Deep appreciation to all who can find the time to take the survey. It should take about 10-15 minutes and will help kickstart some research we’re running.

    • Directly input dimensions of an object

      I have a book cover that is 6x9x.75. It would be ideal to have the ability to input dimensions rather than scale.

      The ability to select units would be great, but to begin simply making it proportional would make it functional.

        Hello all. Units and dimensions are something that are very important, and we’re looking at getting some initial feedback on this topic. We have a brief survey and are also looking for a few people willing to do an interview. In exchange we’ll provide an Amazon gift card to the interviewees.       • Separate Photoshop Shadow Layer

        When rendering to a layered Photoshop file, it would be extremely helpful to have the Object on one layer and the Cast Shadow on a separate layer. This will allow a designer the ability to manipulate shading and integrate it better into the picture. I have worked in 3D for many years (multiple programs) and this separate layered technique is one of the most used by artists and extremely powerful.

          Hi everyone. I wanted to let you know we do plan to add more layers to the .psd output including shadow/light passes, reflection and some other helpful bits. I’ll keep you updated as we get closer on this one.

        • Save Custom Materials

          After editing a material or adding textures to create my own it would be great to save the material for reuse in other projects.

          • Link image files and update saved changes

            Being able to link my image files so when I save the changes in Photoshop/Illustrator, etc, it is updated in Dimension.

              This program is useless without the ability to draw objects in scale, i.e. transformation pallette should be in metric or imperial. Make it just like Illustrator just 3D and I will switch from my current 3D modeling/rendering app.

                    Make it possible to import a .obj file and then add it to the cc library so you can share it with colleauges.

                        Add the ability to import existing .dn-Files.
                        Had to do single product shots and after that I wanted to merge
                        them in an overview of the shots. No chance - Had to bild it up
                        from the start.

                          Crashes Then Corrupts Original File - We NEED AUTO Backups!!

                          If we had automatic backups, my 5 hours of work would not be lost. Felix IS the next major player in the 3D modeling market so this is a MUST HAVE safety feature.

                            Hello! Definitely a great suggestion and something the team is considering heavily right now. It didn’t make our first few beta releases, but it’s on our roadmap for sure. I’ll let you know when we’re closer. :)

                            • Glow effect, Light radiance

                              perhaps when rendering glowing objects, (at a high setting) if there could be some light effects shinning off the surface of the glow? currently it just renders a start white edge and casts light over near by surfaces. it would look nicer if the object look closer to light, not just a solid color.

                                Making the “Glow” option for materials actually emit light and bloom is a planned enhancement! Not sure when exactly we’ll get in, but we’ll let you know when we start on that.

                                • History or Revert feature

                                  A revert feature would be great in this app - just to provide some recourse when experimenting with lighting and material properties etc.. Learning by trial and error I am quiting quite a lot in order to get to a previous point [ultimate would be a history like Photoshop of course!]

                                    It could be valuable if we can have the transform gizmo of the decal also ifor shader's texture.

                                    And also
                                    It could be valuable to unlink diffuse and normal maps transformations.
                                    Sometimes diffuse maps and texture maps don't have the same "physical" size...

                                      Thank you for the suggestion! We do plan on enabling in-canvas manipulation of materials and individual textures. Not sure yet when that will get in, but you’ll get an update here when it’s available.

                                    • The camera-bookmarks menu hides the preview window

                                      Hello,
                                      I often use camera bookmarks to quickly display several zoom on the image (close-up, whole object, just a part, ...). But at the same time, I need to see the preview window to verify the quality of the lights. This is not possible because the bookmark menu hides it. And if you put the preview window in full screen, the bookmark menu disappears. It would be perfect if the bookmark menu could still be visible and do not hide the preview window.

                                      • Default render export path & filename to the same filename and path as the background image.

                                        Usually when working on a project you open the background image from a certain folder and want to save your render to that same folder. It would be a lot easier to have the default save path be the path that you opened your background image from and ideally maintain the same filename.

                                        • Detailed System Requirements Info

                                          I received a message that my machine does not meet one of the requirements for the program to run optimally, but it does not tell me which requirement my machine is not meeting. It would be nice if you had a utility or some way of showing which system requirements are met and which ones fall short.

                                            Great suggestion and something we’re planning for our next release. We have the information in the logs and it’s pretty easy to add it to the dialog!
