Import AI files
(edited by moderator: see separate idea for extruded 3D shapes from vectors: http://projectfelix.uservoice.com/forums/552559/suggestions/31410262 )44 votes
Thank you for the suggestion! We definitely plan on supporting both .ai and .svg files locally for images. Please note that there is a separate discussion for extruding shapes into 3D.
Since this is for us to notify you guys on status, let’s keep the ideas separate. This one will be for supporting the AI file type, and the other is creating 3D extrusions from vectors.
Usually when working on a project you open the background image from a certain folder and want to save your render to that same folder. It would be a lot easier to have the default save path be the path that you opened your background image from and ideally maintain the same filename.1 vote
Thank you for the feedback! We do plan to enhance the way file path memory is shared between some areas.
Me and some colleagues have been modeling in Cinema 4D and sketchup. Importing the obj files we export is not/sometimes a problem. It's a trial and error proces, mostly error.
From sketchup we get errors sometimes about UVs. And on both the sketchup and the cinema 4D models decals don't work or produce unexpected results.
Could you provide some guidelines or instructions on creating models for use in Dimension CC.
Or make the import proces better.1 vote
We’re working on some improvements to importing which includes clearer warnings with a link to an article about how to prepare models for UVs. You should see these updates in our next release.
perhaps when rendering glowing objects, (at a high setting) if there could be some light effects shinning off the surface of the glow? currently it just renders a start white edge and casts light over near by surfaces. it would look nicer if the object look closer to light, not just a solid color.3 votes
Making the “Glow” option for materials actually emit light and bloom is a planned enhancement! Not sure when exactly we’ll get in, but we’ll let you know when we start on that.
I know labels are a great addition to the Dimension, but need to increase quality. Another great addition would be the ability to render at a specific resolution.4 votes
We have some planned fixes to increase the quality for decals. For rendering, you can change the canvas size in design mode > environment properties > canvas size setting.
It could be valuable if we can have the transform gizmo of the decal also ifor shader's texture.
It could be valuable to unlink diffuse and normal maps transformations.
Sometimes diffuse maps and texture maps don't have the same "physical" size...2 votes
Thank you for the suggestion! We do plan on enabling in-canvas manipulation of materials and individual textures. Not sure yet when that will get in, but you’ll get an update here when it’s available.
I received a message that my machine does not meet one of the requirements for the program to run optimally, but it does not tell me which requirement my machine is not meeting. It would be nice if you had a utility or some way of showing which system requirements are met and which ones fall short.1 vote
Great suggestion and something we’re planning for our next release. We have the information in the logs and it’s pretty easy to add it to the dialog! In the mean time if anyone needs help figuring out what system requirement they don’t meet, feel free to send in a 1-1 request (you can do so on the main page here, in-app, or by e-mailing email@example.com).
When sending in a request be sure to include your Application log files.
Make it possible to import a .obj file and then add it to the cc library so you can share it with colleauges.
When rotating a model and holding the Shift ⇧ Key, the angle should snap to some fixed degrees, like the rotation tool in photoshop.7 votes
Great suggestion and something we do want to add!
Being able to link images as smart objects, so that when they are updated in their source file they are updated in the scene as well.10 votes
Quite often when rendering, my object stays blurry while the background renders well. This happens about half of the time, when rendering the exact same file (only changed the decal) which has rendered fine before. How can this happen?
I changed the render quality and tried both PNG and PSD, but that doesn't seem to solve the problem.
See attachment for example.1 vote
While not technically a bug, this is caused by an issue with the app.
There’s a feature called Depth of Field which lets you add blur to the render. You set it up in Design Mode in the environment properties. However, depth of field doesn’t preview in the canvas, so you have to turn on the render preview window to be able to configure it properly.
Currently there is no preview in the canvas so many users are accidentally creating renders that are blurry. I’m going to mark this as a feature request for Depth of Field in the Canvas which is something we’re going to add soon!
To choose image export size7 votes
Hello! Marking this as “Planned” but you can do this currently. In Felix 0.3 just select the “Camera” object from the scene panel and then look at the properties panel. The Camera Size is located here and dictates the final output of the render.
Marking as planned because we are going to make some changes to make it easier and more discoverable, so I’ll use this to update everyone when it’s done! :)
Is there a way to make objects snap to the grid? Unreal allows you to and its really useful for spacing. Rulers would be nice too.9 votes
Snapping is definitely something we’ll be adding in the future.
After editing a material or adding textures to create my own it would be great to save the material for reuse in other projects.24 votes
I could see it being beneficial to have a pause button on the rendering process.4 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! We did in fact, used to have a pause button. But it broke so we had to kill it for a bit. :( It will return when we fix the pause mechanism!
As far as I see I cannot change the color of background or any given abstract background by drag and drop from CC Libraries. The error message is "... Felix does not recognize this type of file." So I have to type in each color individually - which can get quite tiresome.3 votes
Definitely something we’re planning, just didn’t make the first few rounds. :) I’ll update this when we’ve started work on it.
Render times are slow, not usable.
Render times are way to slow. If I render a simluaur scene in Cinema 4D, it takes only 1,5 - 2 minutes instead of forever...18 votes
We are continuing to work on improving the render times in Dimension.
Crashes Then Corrupts Original File - We NEED AUTO Backups!!
If we had automatic backups, my 5 hours of work would not be lost. Felix IS the next major player in the 3D modeling market so this is a MUST HAVE safety feature.8 votes
Hello! Definitely a great suggestion and something the team is considering heavily right now. It didn’t make our first few beta releases, but it’s on our roadmap for sure. I’ll let you know when we’re closer. :)
estimate rendering time. 5-30 mins is still better than nothing.13 votes
In the 0.2.0 release we did include a progress bar and time elapsed counter, but we want to expand this to be a true time estimate as well.
I have a book cover that is 6x9x.75. It would be ideal to have the ability to input dimensions rather than scale.
The ability to select units would be great, but to begin simply making it proportional would make it functional.37 votes
Hello all. Units and dimensions are something that are very important, and we’re looking at getting some initial feedback on this topic. We have a brief survey and are also looking for a few people willing to do an interview. In exchange we’ll provide an Amazon gift card to the interviewees. If you’re interested please start by taking the following survey and we’ll notify those who are selected for the interview portion.
