Would be nice to use this with external GPU. My 2015 MBP with AMD Radeon is running fans so loud, it is hard to listen. And the speed of rendering is pretty slow.
Otherwise I definitely love the idea of 3D app for designers inclouded in CC. Just as handy, as Adobe Muse. Can't wait to see next versions.
Hey everyone. There’s been a lot of discussion here, and some of it is turning quite negative. I was going to wait, but wanted to jump in right away.
We have absolutely been listening and, as mentioned before, have GPU rendering in progress. We have our first build testing in-house right now and will be making it available on Prerelease soon.
Please, note this first release of GPU rendering will be Windows Nvidia only, on cards that support RTX raytracing technology. Plans for AMD and Mac is still in the works but won’t be happening this year.

We hope to upload our first GPU enabled build later this week.
Cloud rendering is in NO WAY a replacement or way to evade doing work to support local rendering. We believe if you have paid for a powerful machine we should take advantage of it. Cloud Rendering is a separate initiative for those who do NOT have powerful machines, or need bulk animations for enterprise workflows. Cloud rendering simply took less time to do because it’s using our current renderer which is CPU based, where GPU rendering really required a lot of engineering investment.
We do plan to expand local CPU/GPU rendering support and performance as well as offer Cloud Rendering services for those who need it. While we haven’t made progress on distributed rendering, that is also something we’re evaluating.
We’re very excited about this first release of GPU support and hope you will all join the Prerelease platform to help test and provide feedback on the experience!

GPU rendering is really necessarily for us. I use Dimension to render company packshot. Using cloud rendering is not a solution because we have over 100+ Hi-res images to render every months.
Dimension is easy to use and very fast setting up the packshot but my company may no longer use it if there are no GPU rendering coming very soon and surely we will not afford Cloud rendering cost.
Besides the "GPU Rendering" I would suggest the "Rendering Lists" that user can make a waiting list of render images. Let PC render images continueusly one by one so we dont have to wait in front of PC to render next image.

It is official - this product is niche and perhaps a spare-time project of Adobe employees - Last year they said this can be expected this year, now they say additional GPU's will be next year... you know, in software development such timescales are unacceptable, but I understand why - they probably only have some 2 engineers and maybe a handful of interns working on this. Imagine if Premiere was introduced today and had no GPU support of ot the box! This application should have hybrid CPU/GPU rendering from the outset as a core design requirement. The way it was handled it was UI first, then worry about how to render when it actually started to take up a shape.

Why?! Why don't you use CUDA or OpenCL and offload some of the massive calculations to the GPU? I'm sitting on 2176 GFLOPS (136 GFLPS double precision) processing power that is unused on this computer by Dimension. That's a shame. Granted 8x3.3 Ghz is cool and fast, but adding 2xAMD D300 would be better.
And what about using a second machine or even more, with Dimension open on them, just like Apple Compressor, and use them as slaves to render? I have 3 Mac minis I use as a compute farm, that would be perfect for this. Doesn't even have to be the full Dimension app, just a small companion app that can only be driven by the main app on the local network.

It's probably safe to say that Adobe aren't interested in making better products, just more revenue streams.
Making Dimension sub-par, by only using the CPU and no way to use a local networked render farm either is just pretty nasty business sense. Nah, just pay Adobe more money and they'll do the processing for you stupid.
It seems like anyone that wants to render in-house, is somehow wrong for having already the facility to render better/faster than what Adobe is providing for cheaper, but all I hear is "no you can't and won't be able to" from them.
I have been following this thread for years now, and there has not been one movement towards giving us, the paying customer a choice on how we want to use our overpaid software.
It sickens me that, no matter how much we say we need or want a given feature, it's turned into another way to extort more money from us.

If Adobe does not include GPU functionality in the next update, I'll have no use for this software. It would be a waste of time. I have no intention or desire to use cloud rendering. I think we should put our foot down. Obviously they dont get what we all want.

I agree with LarCart. It's a bummer for me. I have no interest in paying for the cloud rendering when I'm already paying a monthly subscription. I don't like being nickeld and dimed, especially when I have a $1,000 graphics card in my computer.
From the questions in the survey that rafamaya just sent out, it really seems that Adobe's interest is to get everyone onto Cloud rendering, as it will be an additional revenue stream for them. If that's their intention, then there's no reason to complete or improve the GPU rendering.

Hey Jeanette - Any update on AMD GPU support? I'm ready to cry over here waiting for these renders to finish. The final product looks great but these render times are murder. i9 8-core 5GHz and I'm still pulling teeth.
My DUO GPU would make fast work of this - Much faster than the 20 minutes of cloud compute time.

Times flies by, so slowly. Like the update process of the adobe coding team. There is still no gpu support, and the remove of the V-Ray renderer doesnt speed up anything.

My Quadro P1000 is just sitting there doing nothing while my 6 Cores Xeon is maxed out at 4Ghz for a simple render of a canister and taking 15 minutes plus..
Any updates on GPU-rendering for the coming updates? To sit with a GTX 1080 TI with 0% load and all CPU cores at full load during rendering feels a bit.. meh

I was very excited about Dimension, until I opened the rendering. It's unrealistic to see that such software does not have something basic like GPU rendering.
