Ability to slice an object with a plane
For instance, I'd like to take a sphere and chop it in half (hemisphere) or possibly slice some other object at a particular angle.

Sort of? I was trying to create a 3D model of a space station as a piece of concept art and needed to make a hemisphere, among other shapes, and didn't see any way to do that.
