Import CAD formats (IGES, STEP, SAT, SMT etc)
These would be VERY helpful for those of us working in a Engineering Department. Engineers create models and we Technical Illustrators would love to make use of those models. Right now our option is a VERY EXPENSIVE Keyshot program. Bu we already have Adobe CC so it would be a great fit! So, PLEASE add support for at least these. Then later we'll bug you about native support for popular Solid Modeling Programs like SolidWorks and SolidEdge.
Hey everyone! Today we announced the release of a new app – Adobe Substance 3D Stager.
Stager builds on the foundation of Dimension but has a completely reworked infrastructure and is built for pro audiences.
Stager includes support for CAD import including dozens of new formats, the full list can be found in the Stager documentation:
CAD Import is only available for those with the Enterprise version of the Substance 3D Collection plan. More information on this plan is available here:
You can find more information about Stager here:

This is nice but many of us, such as myself (I work in Technical Publications) don't have the luxury afforded by our IT departments to have something like Adobe Substance...we need at least a simple viewer for CAD formats; something such as Acrobat. Acrobat has the ability to support 3D files...this seems to be a bit of a no-brainer to me.

It is outrageous to say the least.
Adobe asks consumers what what will work; then instead of adding it to the current portfolio of software which the consumers are referencing they release more expensive software on a completely different suite that we now have to pay for also.
Why not just merge the acquired Substance Software Suite with the existing Adobe Creative Cloud Suite?
Now this would have shown that you are improving and that you do care for your customers.

If I'm reading this correctly, then this is outrageous on the part of Adobe. We asked for CAD file support for Dimension and you give us new programs? PREMIUM programs that we have to pay MORE for?! This is just like Adobe, not actually listening to what people are asking for.

in addition to Mark's post, it should be cool, if nurbs geometry remains nurbs like Stager's parametric shape, and allows to add round corners...
or at least add round corner feature to shaders...
Matt Messick commented
Does the CAD import feature for Stager import as CAD geometry or is it converted to polygonal geometry?
Trevor Rowe commented
I love that Stager can support so many file format. Been waiting a long time for that in Dimension. But why enterprise only? This is a feature that many would find useful, even those of us not in an enterprise environment. Is enterprise even available for individuals and small studios? What is the pricing like?
Jean Michel Le Goff commented
Is the current version of Stager already able to import Cad files?
I've installed the trial version (1.0) and Step files don't look recognized...
Is this a replacement for Dimension?
The announcement states that they have released "a new app" which is "built for pro audiences."
If this is truly a Dimension replacement, I will be very disappointed with it not being part of the Creative Cloud All Apps plan.

Anyone know if this Stager thing has booleans yet? :|

I was excited to see this email come in...until I noticed that it wasn't included with the Adobe Creative Suite package like Dimension had been. Then I was even more disappointed when I saw that it was $40/month and that there was an additional subscription to add CAD file integration (of which there was no information available).
Since this was a replacement for Dimension, why was this made to be completely separate from Creative Suite?
Martin Abbott commented
I was extremely encouraged to read this and I've eagerly installed Substance 3D stager only to find that the CAD import features we're all been waiting for are still not there - they require a subscription to a "Substance 3D Collection enterprise plan". I've been going round in circles trying to find any pricing information to no avail. Seeing as it's got the word 'Enterprise' in it I'm not exactly hopeful for the affordability for individual users like me.

Is this still in the works? I signed up for the prelease months ago but was never able to access the version or use it.
Phoebe Bullock commented
It seems the prerelease program for this has ended now, is this a sign there will be an update coming to Dimension which will allow us to import .STP and .STEP files?
Jodi Carver commented
How do you open stp files in the beta version? When I try to import the stp file appears gray and I can't import.
Jaime Alcantara commented
Is there a timeline when IGES or IGS will be supported?
Could really use the STEP & STP file import into dimension. Still not working.
Jenny Westberg commented
Step files still not possible to open.
Juergen Freund commented
Also the Version 3.4 taht you can download here is not working with STP files !!!
So what the admin has written is not correct. It`s really a pity.....
Patricio Arce commented
Hi there! Any word on accepting STEP files, yet?
Lee Knaggsi commented
Is there any update on this???
