Import CAD formats (IGES, STEP, SAT, SMT etc)
These would be VERY helpful for those of us working in a Engineering Department. Engineers create models and we Technical Illustrators would love to make use of those models. Right now our option is a VERY EXPENSIVE Keyshot program. Bu we already have Adobe CC so it would be a great fit! So, PLEASE add support for at least these. Then later we'll bug you about native support for popular Solid Modeling Programs like SolidWorks and SolidEdge.
Hey everyone! Today we announced the release of a new app – Adobe Substance 3D Stager.
Stager builds on the foundation of Dimension but has a completely reworked infrastructure and is built for pro audiences.
Stager includes support for CAD import including dozens of new formats, the full list can be found in the Stager documentation:
CAD Import is only available for those with the Enterprise version of the Substance 3D Collection plan. More information on this plan is available here:
You can find more information about Stager here:

Can we please get some more information on this? This will be a great feature!

Is there any update about the current status?

I'm putting my hand up here . Need STEP support ASAP please!!
Katrina Anderson commented
Agreed! I need to open step files too! Great to see it's in development :)
Robert Maldonado commented
Commenting to express my support for adding STEP files as a supported import format!
Jason Wilson commented
Any chance of x_t support too?

Hello, I am also looking for an update on STEP import? The software is great but without STEP support it almost useless to me. Please can you also confirm you are going to support multi-body step files?

Is there a target date yet for Step import? Also really need it for this software to be useful
David Cleveland commented
that's great news! thank you!

When do you think you might add .stp support?
Paul LEPKOWSKI commented
Please add .stp import. Especially with multiple bodies. This could be a great application for rendering CAD models. Unfortunately, it really doesn't do much if you have to convert each individual model into an .stl and then reposition them, with no accuracy, one by one. I would love to keep paying for this software, if it will do what I need it to do.
Sadhna Nath commented
Please include .stp/.step format soon. I really need it for my work.

I feel the need to add my voice to those requesting a proper way to bring models into Dimension from engineering CAD packages. I work in SolidWorks and was very excited when Dimension was added to the CC app suite as I often need to produce visuals from my models, but the reality is I've not used it once as there is no efficient work-flow between the applications.
It needs to be able to quickly and reliably accept multi-body parts / assemblies from formats such as .step (or .iges, .sat, .x_t, etc) and then quickly and easily allow materials and decals to be applied to the individual bodies or faces.

I agree with Josiah,
But when importing Step/Iges files it's important to manage the UV's accordingly.
May be the project "Anorigami" from Substance Team can help.

So this is not a viable option for product renderings if you can't use at least a .step file. If you get a file from an engineer it will not be in a mesh format.. Only animation artist use wire frame / mesh based programs. You should not have to save out as an unworkable .stl file to be able to render it. If Adobe wants put a new program out that competes with other program like "Keyshot" it should know what kinds of file formats to use.

Please add support of step. Large libraries online often work in step files.

I would also agree that step and iges are vital for Dimension. Step in particular for me. Step files are hands down the most common exchange file type for CAD models from what I seen, having worked in engineering design for the past 10 years. Are there any updates on step files being added to Dimension please? (rough implementation dates perhaps?)

STP support would be amazing! Currently the conversion from STP to OBJ causes the renders to show a lot of tessellation. Would love to be able to render smooth images of our product in Dimension :)

Any update on step/iges import? I make my models in Fusion and now I can only import the separate parts.

Please do it!!!! It would be so helpful!
