Import .stp STEP files
Dimension would be much more useful if it could import standard cad formats such as .stp files.

Hello all! CAD import for Dimension, including STEP and STP files, is now available for early testing on our Prerelease program. You can join the Prerelease here:
https://www.adobeprerelease.com/beta/6D4BC437-A571-40B6-B398-1D29A4A13985
Remember Prerelease access is an optional beta program. Prerelease builds are for testing and feedback to the team and not intended or sanctioned for commercial use in live projects until the feature is officially released.
We’d love your feedback on the workflow so far, on whether your CAD models are importing correctly and whether you’re able to achieve the right results!

It seems the prerelease program for this has ended now, is this a sign there will be an update coming to Dimension which will allow us to import .STP and .STEP files?

How do you open stp files in the beta version? When I try to import the stp file appears gray and I can't import.

Hello, I am also looking for an update on STEP import? The software is great but without STEP support it almost useless to me. Please can you also confirm you are going to support multi-body step files?

Is there a target date yet for Step import? Also really need it for this software to be useful

When do you think you might add .stp support?

Please add .stp import. Especially with multiple bodies. This could be a great application for rendering CAD models. Unfortunately, it really doesn't do much if you have to convert each individual model into an .stl and then reposition them, with no accuracy, one by one. I would love to keep paying for this software, if it will do what I need it to do.

I feel the need to add my voice to those requesting a proper way to bring models into Dimension from engineering CAD packages. I work in SolidWorks and was very excited when Dimension was added to the CC app suite as I often need to produce visuals from my models, but the reality is I've not used it once as there is no efficient work-flow between the applications.
It needs to be able to quickly and reliably accept multi-body parts / assemblies from formats such as .step (or .iges, .sat, .x_t, etc) and then quickly and easily allow materials and decals to be applied to the individual bodies or faces.

I agree with Josiah,
But when importing Step/Iges files it's important to manage the UV's accordingly.
May be the project "Anorigami" from Substance Team can help.
