Separate Photoshop Shadow Layer
When rendering to a layered Photoshop file, it would be extremely helpful to have the Object on one layer and the Cast Shadow on a separate layer. This will allow a designer the ability to manipulate shading and integrate it better into the picture. I have worked in 3D for many years (multiple programs) and this separate layered technique is one of the most used by artists and extremely powerful.
114 votesHi everyone. I wanted to let you know we do plan to add more layers to the .psd output including shadow/light passes, reflection and some other helpful bits. I’ll keep you updated as we get closer on this one.

Queue Multiple Renders
It would be great to have a way to queue up more than one render if you need more than one angle of a product (I do, often). This way you can set a computer to do all the renderings you need and not having to touch it until its done working.
59 votesToday Dimension allows you to queue multiple camera views in Render mode. We’re working to expand this system to multiple configurations of one scene as well as working on automation features for rendering multiple documents.
Will provide more information as we get further along!

Render Round Corners
I could be valuable to add "Round Corners" feature to the render engine.
If it really Vray under Felix, I guess that this feature already exist, and it could be cool to expose it in Felix. The goal is to give more realism to basic shapes (lighter models) and to go faster...
40 votesYeah this is a VRay feature we’ve thought about. It just rounds out the edges a little bit to give them a more natural, less ‘hard’ look. I think it could be very valuable! Thanks for posting!

Isometric view / render / setting
I would really love to be able to set up an isometric view :) (with and withouth dept of field) <3

Render Selected area.
Render just a selection.
38 votesThanks for the suggestion! Can I ask for a bit more detail? Would you want to define an area of the screen and have that keep rendering even if you change your camera? Or just like a quick “Show me this area” then it goes away?

Background Rendering
Ideally I would like to be able to work and render at the same time. So consider have a separate tab or window for the render. This way I can render high quality in the background, while working on a new model, scene, etc in the foreground.
33 votesThanks for the suggestion! Definitely something that would help fill up those render times, and something we’re considering!
-
Cloud Rendering
option to process final renders in the 'cloud', render images on external servers not on local machine. this would be a dream for all those not carrying around monster laptops or able to waste hours watching pixels grow.
32 votesAs of January 11, 2021, Cloud Rendering (beta) has been removed from Dimension.
Thank you for all who participated in using the beta during this time and for the exceptional feedback provided to the team! We are continuing to develop our rendering solutions including in-app, cloud, and automation offerings and you can expect more rendering news in future releases.

Export decal as separate layer
HI! Great start on this application, could be amazing.
Right off the bat, it's imperative to be able to export a label or decal separate from the object it's on. Would be a great feature - not so usable until thats there. Thanks!
Mike25 votesThanks for the suggestion and details! We’ll definitely keep this in mind. It was something we investigated, but couldn’t do it too easily. I’m sure we can with some more time!

Export Videos
Once there is animation support it would be great to export in video.

Export for VR
It would be nice to be able to do rapid prototyping integration for VR testing of 3D spaces before going to Unity 3D to build. Could add as an output option to render equirectangular pngs. Then you could plug in the phone similar to XD prototyping to view on device and/or in a cardboard viewer.
21 votesHello! The Dimension team is gathering some feedback around various export requests. If you’re interested in providing more detail on your request for exporting workflows, please take a moment to fill out the following brief survey:

Advanced Render Quality Settings
A little more technical info like samples, render ETA etc. instead of just high/med/low could be helpful for the more informed. Also, the ability to disable choose arbitrary render resolution from the render tab is more convenient IMO instead of having to change it every time from the camera panel.
21 votesGreat suggestion. We definitely want to expose these more advanced options for 3D experienced users. Having that flexibility will be great. :)
-
Custom Render layers
It would be extremely helpful to be able to set up render layers with alpha channel for each Model, model sub component and material. This makes post work in PS much quicker and precise. Re-rendering also is much quicker if a layer can be swapped out - rather than a full re-render of the scene.
21 votesGreat suggestion and something we’re interested in supporting. :)

Decals as smart objects when rendering to PSD files.
One of my client has multiple products with the same bottle but different labels. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be nice to explore having the decal of a rendered model become its own smart object when rendering to a PSD file. Switching the image in the smart object out for each new product as opposed to rendering the same products over and over with a different label would be a real time saver.
18 votesThanks for the suggestion! I’d love to know here if rendering was faster would you prefer smart objects in Dimension so you can place the new graphics in 3D? The reason I ask is mostly because if we bake the materials and lighting down to 2D there’s a bit more limitation on what you could do with the PS smart object. For example replacing the packaging label wouldn’t update to show in reflections or refractions in the rest of the scene. Is that an okay limitation?

Render Time Limit
It would be useful to set a period of time for the render to use. Combined with my earlier idea, a render queue, you would be able to get a set number of renders at a set time. Very useful in the creative world where deadlines are frequent and always closing in.
I've added a quick scene being rendered on a MacBook Pro (Late 2013 top spec, i7 quadcore 2,6, 16GB ram, GT750M 2GB), medium quality, 1024x768, with a snapshot taken at 30 minutes. It's still going, about 40 minutes now, not much difference in quality, so a way to…
18 votesDefinitely see how that could be useful! Thanks for the suggestion!

Render and design at the same time
It would be nice to render while designing.

Glow effect, Light radiance
perhaps when rendering glowing objects, (at a high setting) if there could be some light effects shinning off the surface of the glow? currently it just renders a start white edge and casts light over near by surfaces. it would look nicer if the object look closer to light, not just a solid color.
15 votesMaking the “Glow” option for materials actually emit light and bloom is a planned enhancement! Not sure when exactly we’ll get in, but we’ll let you know when we start on that.
-
Ambient Occlusion
Please add two sliders for ambient occlusion, both size and intensity. The ability to add this to renderings of exterior building facades will make the renderings "pop".

Render Queue (Different files)
I saw the update that allows rendering mutliple saved views. This is a good start...
Imagine a "Media Encoder" equivalent for Dimension. Save multiple views from multiple files, and save to a render queue. Let that run over night to chomp away at these big renders.13 votes -
Render Pause Button
I could see it being beneficial to have a pause button on the rendering process.
11 votesThanks for the suggestion! We did in fact, used to have a pause button. But it broke so we had to kill it for a bit. :( It will return when we fix the pause mechanism!

render to EXR - render passes
It would very good to have the option to render to EXR with multiple passes. Compositing in this way gives a great deal of flexibility in post over the reflections, color, light /shadows, specularity, transparency..
It would also be very interesting to see the render output directly linked to Photoshop, premiere/ aftereffects.
In other applications rendering is not linked to the post processing tools - which makes it much slower to update layers and much less likely that re-rendering or additional changes will happen in the retracing tool.
9 votesGreat suggestion. EXR is a very powerful format and we see a lot of potential for render passes. Thanks for posting!
