Hello everyone! Just wanted to say we are starting work on some lighting features this year. While I don’t know the full scope of what we’ll be able to release this year yet, some areas we’re exploring are:
More directional lights (like the sun) with a lightpainting interface to create custom environment lights.
Improvements to our Match Image feature to be able to detect and generate multiple indoor lights.
Improvements to glow materials to make them more expressive.
Additions of haze, environmental atmosphere, etc.
Last, but not least, actual 3D placed light objects.
I’ll update here when we have a more scoped vision or a prototype for testing! :)

I just have a scene with several possible lightings, so I have to change lighting, render, change lighting, render ... and so on.
I know I could save every scene in a seperate file but it would be much easier to handle if it would work with a bookmark like the one for the camera ...4 votes
We are considering a system for having variations of objects, lighting, and camera as different scene arrangements.
Camera: With this option you can control whether the light will be seen by the camera. When "on", the light object is rendered. When "off", the object itself is not rendered, but illumination other features remains the same.
Shadow: This option works for normal polygon objects rather than light objects. For a detailed description, please refer to the "Octane Object Tag" section.2 votes
Bitmap used as a light source can be rotated just horizontally. Is it possible to rotate it vertically as well2 votes
It would be very helpful to have control over the saturation of the lighting form the HDR.2 votes
Great suggestion – can you go into more detail here though? Would you want just saturation or also contrast, etc? Why?
Blend Modes to be used when placing graphics on models. I use this all the time in photoshop and think this is really essential for a mockup platform such as dimension.1 vote
I wish the lighting more closely approximated what the rendered version will look like. Most of the time the lighting is way off and I have to re-render the scene which can take a while. Even the Show/Hide Render Preview quick view within the Design stage should be improved.1 vote
We’re actively working on improving the real-time approximation. I was curious for the Render Preview mode if you think that is giving you different results. It should be fairly accurate to the final render aside from the level of noise and grain which is capped to prevent it from using too much power
Feel free to share a screenshot or two if you’re getting drastically different results!

Please add shadow catch planes, so If I do use a background image, I can have shadows cast on walls, Or maybe an auto-match wall plane feature.1 vote
Tagging Light or give a name to the type of Environment chosen. I have many projects with different kinds of lighting on each, and I want to copy some of them for the new projects; however, I can't because I don't know what light (environment) I picked for some of them. It could be way more easy by just having a name displayed on the properties panel or at least highlighted on the lights panel. I think this is a UX small detail that might help to save time.1 vote
