Preset Camera Views
Snap to views: front, side back, bottom.
Allow to choose object relative to snap view too as well.
55 votesThank you for the suggestion! Absolutely top/back, etc. views are very helpful. Something we are looking into!

Background Layer Controls (position, rotate, scale)
Currently the background image is simply projected as is with some basic controls for choosing between scale modes (crop, fit, or scale). Controls would allow you to position, rotate, and scale the background image freely in relation to the camera.

Reflect/Mirror/Flip 3d Object
I need ability to duplicate and relection 3d element. Right now if we duplicate 3d stuff on the left and want it the same look and position on the right - reflected look. It is impossible to get the look using rotation orbit.
29 votesGreat suggestion! Thank you for the detailed request.

Manually create horizon line
Not all photographs have the obvious horizon line that you use in your tutorials. However, as the photographer sometimes you know where it is. It would be great if you could manually insert a horizon line where you know that it is and have it use that. i.e. just draw a horizon line on the photograph that you have used.
19 votesGreat suggestion! You do still have the manual camera controls in the upper-right corner of the viewport, but drawing a horizon does seem like it would help speed that up. :)

Use Rulers
Can we get rulers?

Place Objects on Background Walls/Planes
It would be awesome to have an option to delve deeper into the raster background image—say of an office or room—by being able to place models on the wall with the shadows/lighting interacting as it would hanging/leaning there.
15 votesThanks for the suggestion! This is actually something we are looking into, though it’s a bit down the line. We have some research going on for it though!
-
Step and Repeat (Clone/Array)
It would be very usefull if designers could "step and repeat" objects in 3 dimensions to create a "store" visualisation effect. Important issue is that only one object can be modified. If the "master" object is changed, all objects in the "step and repeat" group should be automatically updated.
14 votesGreat suggestion! Thank you for posting details!
-
Support for Gradients in Color Fields
It would be interesting to be able to degrade (gradient) in the background instead of a single color!

Camera Lens options
I'm doing renders and wanting to emulate a 50mm Canon FD lens that I have in my kit. It occurred to me that Lightroom has all of the details on every one of these lenses AND the distortion/vignetting that those lenses apply to the image.
Proposal:
Add lens options to the camera feature to enable us to replicate existing lenses. This would include the option of adding lens distortions (this is especially valuable in renders with high-dof where rendered objects are out of focus and near the edge of the frame where barrel distortion would change how the focus appears) …
12 votesThank you for the suggestion! This sounds like something we would want to add in the future.

Background Artificial Sky & Cloud Controls
In many cases it is easy to find a good exterior photo to use as a background. However finding photos with perfect sky is problematic. If you could add composting controls for sky and clouds it would make the compostition interactive.

Adding Another Horizon/Grid
The ability to add a new level/horizon/layer of grid, for example to lay objects out as if on a set of shelves, would be a great help, please

Show HDRI IBL in Background
When you apply a spherical HDRI image to the background, there should be an option to unfreeze the image so when you orbit, the background changes with it.
additionally, if an HDRI is chosen, it would be handy to have sliders in the options bar that allow you to change the image rotation, and scale. See attached concept
7 votesThanks for the suggestion. We’re adding an option to use the IBL as the background, but sounds like you want to use a seperate spherical background image, correct?

Add Image to 3D Scene
I love that this is built for designers with image backgrounds, but as a photographer this could be huge for compositing. So basically I need the reverse. I need to be able to take a masked layer (say a masked out runner) and throw them into this scene and have refraction (glass) or what not to interact with the masked layer of the runner. so the ability to bring masked layers of photos into the scene to render out with objects is what I'd love to have! I currently have to do this in C4D

Separate Camera Objects
Having the camera as a 3D object in the scene

Lock Render Preview to Bookmarked Camera
It would be helpful to lock the Render Preview to a bookmarked camera.
Placing objects can require constant movement around the scene and it's currently a little awkward jumping back to the bookmarked camera to check the composition, then re-positioning the camera back where you need it to edit objects.
Having the render preview set to your desired export view would eliminate this, leaving you free to move around the scene and make edits, with one on eye on the final composition the whole time.
5 votesThanks for the suggestion! We’re thinking through the Render Preview and how we want to improve that experience right now and this is one option for sure!

Get Dimensions of Selection
need sizing for the individual properties, currently lookingat the billboard, but I cannot get the information on what size the POSTER is, so I can create porportionate 2D art.
5 votesThank you for the suggestion. This is an interesting one, shouldn’t be too hard to implement. :) Just so I understand, you’re looking for a way to start with the 3D model and get the exact dimensions of one of the parts (such as the sign portion of a billboard, screen portion of a phone, etc.) so you can make the images to that specific dimension, correct?

Option to prevent intersecting models
It would be helpful to have some sort of button that, when ON, would prevent any models from intersecting with other models while working on a composition. While this option is on, if I try to move 2 objects so close together that they intersect, this would be prevented, and the movement would be stopped. In other words, the models would behave like solid objects in the real world. Then, when the option is turned off, I'd be able to position a model to pierce the surface of another model as DN currently allows.
4 votesThis is definitely something we’ve chatted about, but not actively working on yet. Snapping, collision, and physics are all ways to approach this area, and all things we’re discussing. I’ll update if/when we move forward on one!

Depth of Field Sensitivity Balancing
the blur mode is realy intense and hper sensitive. It's also difficult to regester exactly where the focus point is. i click a spot and it focuses near (not on) the spot.

Find and Replace Colors
It would be awesome to add a feature where if you have a common color in the object, you can select the same color and change it to another color, like a find and replace color.

layer comps
This was already mentioned in the forum but a turn-on, turn-off eyeball feature is essential, especially for the product shots i'm trying to render which has customizable features that I need ot show multiple versions of.
It would also be an incredible too to have 'actions' and essentially the equivalent to 'layer comps' avaiable to allow setting up multiple verions and running renders overnight.
Is any of this in the works? Esepcially the eyeball feature mentioned back in December by another user?
3 votesYes. :) We’re tryign to be pretty open about what we’re working on so all of the ideas here have statuses.
Gathering Feedback: We’re not sure
Planned: We’ve added it to our backlog and plan to do it
Started: W e’re actively working on it
The other suggestion for object visibility toggles (Eyeball) is marked as started and is targeted for our next release (though I never promise since you don’t know what will blow up during development cycles, hehe). There’s another suggestion for having a render queue for multiple renders that is also something we have planned eventually.
The part that I’d say is still undefined is the Layer Comps idea. We’ve been considering something like that but haven’t made any commitments to it yet. I’ll rename this suggestion to Layer Comps we can use this discussion area to track it. I’d love to know more details about how/when/why…
- Don't see your idea?
