Export decal as separate layer
HI! Great start on this application, could be amazing.
Right off the bat, it's imperative to be able to export a label or decal separate from the object it's on. Would be a great feature - not so usable until thats there. Thanks!
Mike23 votesThanks for the suggestion and details! We’ll definitely keep this in mind. It was something we investigated, but couldn’t do it too easily. I’m sure we can with some more time!

Importing Multiple OBJ Files
would be great to import multiple OBJ files into a project. ;)

Add bump map/texture
It would be a good idea to add bump map/ edit texture UVs feature

Export Videos
Once there is animation support it would be great to export in video.

Edit and Replace Materials in Scene
An easier way to manage/delete/replace materials applied to the scene

.3ds file import compatibility
3ds import compatibility

Final Render Transparency
Transparency on final render would be great fro compositing in photoshop with other elements.
21 votesThe last status update on this was some time ago, so I wanted to refresh it! As you are no doubt aware we ended up not making this change, as previously stated.
We’re still reviewing what we want to do here. With translucency, the renderer bounces lights around the scene, takes information like what color it bounced off of and that’s why our translucent objects have some information baked into the transparency.
Just turning off the BG transparency is pretty easy, but making translucent things render without that ‘baked in’ environment information is a big challenge. We’re working on some other areas with higher priority, but continue to keep this topic top of mind.

Copy and paste models from other DN file
The option to copy between the same software files

2D > 3D Modeling (Lathe, Extrude, Loft)
Similar to conventional 3D software, Felix should have the ability to create 3D images from 1/2D wireframes. ie. a 1D line is drawn (a circle), the 1D drawing is filled to create 2nd dimension. The 2D shape is then scaled from surface to create a cylinder (3rd dimension). This offers a much more methodical and flexible approach to creating wireframes/models. Further example: using a series of curved lines to create a tapered bottle wireframe (like a shampoo bottle that is crimped at the top). The user is then able to then create a mesh that follows this curved lines >…
20 votesHello everyone! The Dimension team is very interested in the topic of creation/modeling/editing as a whole. We haven’t added any creation so far, but are actively researching this area. We have a new survey on modeling and editing and would love your thoughts on the topic!

Export for VR
It would be nice to be able to do rapid prototyping integration for VR testing of 3D spaces before going to Unity 3D to build. Could add as an output option to render equirectangular pngs. Then you could plug in the phone similar to XD prototyping to view on device and/or in a cardboard viewer.
20 votesHello! The Dimension team is gathering some feedback around various export requests. If you’re interested in providing more detail on your request for exporting workflows, please take a moment to fill out the following brief survey:

Advanced Render Quality Settings
A little more technical info like samples, render ETA etc. instead of just high/med/low could be helpful for the more informed. Also, the ability to disable choose arbitrary render resolution from the render tab is more convenient IMO instead of having to change it every time from the camera panel.
20 votesGreat suggestion. We definitely want to expose these more advanced options for 3D experienced users. Having that flexibility will be great. :)
-
Custom Render layers
It would be extremely helpful to be able to set up render layers with alpha channel for each Model, model sub component and material. This makes post work in PS much quicker and precise. Re-rendering also is much quicker if a layer can be swapped out - rather than a full re-render of the scene.
20 votesGreat suggestion and something we’re interested in supporting. :)

Manually create horizon line
Not all photographs have the obvious horizon line that you use in your tutorials. However, as the photographer sometimes you know where it is. It would be great if you could manually insert a horizon line where you know that it is and have it use that. i.e. just draw a horizon line on the photograph that you have used.
19 votesGreat suggestion! You do still have the manual camera controls in the upper-right corner of the viewport, but drawing a horizon does seem like it would help speed that up. :)

Decals as smart objects when rendering to PSD files.
One of my client has multiple products with the same bottle but different labels. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be nice to explore having the decal of a rendered model become its own smart object when rendering to a PSD file. Switching the image in the smart object out for each new product as opposed to rendering the same products over and over with a different label would be a real time saver.
18 votesThanks for the suggestion! I’d love to know here if rendering was faster would you prefer smart objects in Dimension so you can place the new graphics in 3D? The reason I ask is mostly because if we bake the materials and lighting down to 2D there’s a bit more limitation on what you could do with the PS smart object. For example replacing the packaging label wouldn’t update to show in reflections or refractions in the rest of the scene. Is that an okay limitation?

Import MTL Materials
I'm having a very difficult time creating new materials...
I'm currently trying to create a snake skin material, but Dimension CC doesn't support MTL files????
What is the file type Adobe Dimension uses for its materials? Dimension should import MTL files as these are very common.
Edited by Moderator: Please only post ideas in proposal formats, not questions.
18 votesDimension uses the Adobe Standard Material which is based off of the NVidia MDL language. Our supported extension is ‘.mdl’, but it does require the Adobe Standard Material type. You can create MDLs using Substance Painter and Designer at the moment.
https://helpx.adobe.com/dimension/using/standard-materials.html
For MTL we do have a conversion process when importing it along with an .obj but we do not have a standalone MTL importer yet. This is something we can add though. Since this is an idea based forum I’ll edit this question to be a proposal to support importing MTL materials.

Multiple View WIndows
It will be helpful to have different view panel layout on screen while creating file- top/front/3D view together
18 votesWork for multiple view windows hasn’t begun and is still in review. While we understand the value of multiple viewports we have a good bit of work to do on improving the one viewport we currently have. We’re focusing on the current composition, bookmark and render experience for this year but will probably start looking into multiple cameras and viewports more next year.

Render Time Limit
It would be useful to set a period of time for the render to use. Combined with my earlier idea, a render queue, you would be able to get a set number of renders at a set time. Very useful in the creative world where deadlines are frequent and always closing in.
I've added a quick scene being rendered on a MacBook Pro (Late 2013 top spec, i7 quadcore 2,6, 16GB ram, GT750M 2GB), medium quality, 1024x768, with a snapshot taken at 30 minutes. It's still going, about 40 minutes now, not much difference in quality, so a way to…
18 votesDefinitely see how that could be useful! Thanks for the suggestion!
