Adobe Dimension: Feature Requests
When entering a new feature request, please provide specific details. Why is this feature valuable to you? Give an example of how you would use it in a workflow.
-
Render and design at the same time
It would be nice to render while designing.

Add depth to decals
Depth slider for decals as seen in Keyshot
16 votesWe plan on adding a depth slider for decals to give embossing and debossing effects in the future. I don’t have a specific timeline for that yet, but it’s on our roadmap!
-
Vehicle Models
Vehicles: Would be fantastic if you could make car models available for vehicle wraps. Or at least the option to import blueprints/renderings of them.

Support for 3D Printing
STL files and dimensions (metric and imperial) for 3D printing. Manipulation of shapes from anchor points not just scaling. Extruding off of faces
Separate a group of faces from an object to produce 2 different solids without the use of subtraction.16 votesThanks for the suggestions! Just as an FYI we generally track each feature individually, so we do have suggestions for STL support and add/subtract meshes to make new shapes, for example. Might suggest voting on those!
3D printing is definitely something we’re keeping in mind!

Import 3DM files from Rhino
Support Rhino 3dm. Files please

Place Objects on Background Walls/Planes
It would be awesome to have an option to delve deeper into the raster background image—say of an office or room—by being able to place models on the wall with the shadows/lighting interacting as it would hanging/leaning there.
15 votesThanks for the suggestion! This is actually something we are looking into, though it’s a bit down the line. We have some research going on for it though!

Auto-Save
Crashes Then Corrupts Original File - We NEED AUTO Backups!!
If we had automatic backups, my 5 hours of work would not be lost. Felix IS the next major player in the 3D modeling market so this is a MUST HAVE safety feature.
15 votesHello! Definitely a great suggestion and something the team is considering heavily right now. It didn’t make our first few beta releases, but it’s on our roadmap for sure. I’ll let you know when we’re closer. :)

.dae support
It seems like i can, but when i choose the file i want to import and click open it never apears.

Ambient Occlusion
Please add two sliders for ambient occlusion, both size and intensity. The ability to add this to renderings of exterior building facades will make the renderings "pop".

Glow effect, Light radiance
perhaps when rendering glowing objects, (at a high setting) if there could be some light effects shinning off the surface of the glow? currently it just renders a start white edge and casts light over near by surfaces. it would look nicer if the object look closer to light, not just a solid color.
14 votesMaking the “Glow” option for materials actually emit light and bloom is a planned enhancement! Not sure when exactly we’ll get in, but we’ll let you know when we start on that.
-
Step and Repeat (Clone/Array)
It would be very usefull if designers could "step and repeat" objects in 3 dimensions to create a "store" visualisation effect. Important issue is that only one object can be modified. If the "master" object is changed, all objects in the "step and repeat" group should be automatically updated.
14 votesGreat suggestion! Thank you for posting details!
-
Support for Gradients in Color Fields
It would be interesting to be able to degrade (gradient) in the background instead of a single color!

Adding texture or images, like wood to the grounds plane.
Adding an option to the grounds plane property where you can add textures like wood or cement onto the grounds plane. It's helpful when rendering something that needs a surface as a background. And being able to change angles and still make the object look like its sitting on the same surface.
13 votesWe can add something that would project across the entire ground plane. In the mean time you can add a plane object and then place an image onto that and change it’s full material properties.

Export for ARKit
HI,
Sure it is on the radar, but exporting for Apple's ARKit would be a good move.
13 votesHello! The Dimension team is gathering some feedback around various export requests. If you’re interested in providing more detail on your request for exporting workflows, please take a moment to fill out the following brief survey:
-
Multiple Documents or Scenes Open
Being able to open multiple instances of the application or work on multiple scenes during rendering.

Cloth Assembly and Simulation
I've recently worked in two Design Projects that involved cloth of some sorts. One of them, that was a complete challenge and, though it won 1rst Prize in a National Design Contest, the cloth component still looks horrible on the renders.
Trying to model the cloth part and get it together with the SolidWorks wooden parts was the biggest challenge here. I had to do it manually, polygon by polygon, within the time limit, and figure out a way to get everything together.
Would there be any possibility of modelling cloth physics on Felix and allow for an easier manipulation…
13 votesAt some point we do plan to have cloth functionality in Dimension. I’m updating the status here because we’ve actually got some progress on our physics engine with our first physics feature (drop to ground) and have some more in the works. So this has matured enough I feel like I can publically say we’ll do cloth at some point! It’s probably still a while out though. I’ll update when we’re closer to starting work on that area particularly.

Camera Lens options
I'm doing renders and wanting to emulate a 50mm Canon FD lens that I have in my kit. It occurred to me that Lightroom has all of the details on every one of these lenses AND the distortion/vignetting that those lenses apply to the image.
Proposal:
Add lens options to the camera feature to enable us to replicate existing lenses. This would include the option of adding lens distortions (this is especially valuable in renders with high-dof where rendered objects are out of focus and near the edge of the frame where barrel distortion would change how the focus appears) …
12 votesThank you for the suggestion! This sounds like something we would want to add in the future.

Import new object to same X,Y,Z orientation as current selection
Here is the proposed workflow:
1. Select an object in Dimension that you've placed
2. Go up to File>import> 3D Object and click to start the import process
3. Imported object is set at the exact coordinates of the previously selected object, and is now the selected object in your scene.
4.You can now make minor X,Y,Z location changes to the new object in order to have it match your vision of the composition.Current process
1. write down all of the coordinates for your currently selected object.
2. Go up to File>import> 3D Object and click to start the…12 votesThanks for the suggestion! Very interesting. I’m curious what the core thing you’re trying to do is, though.
Do you want it to import to the same location so that it’s visible because your camera is looking one way and it’s importing behind you? Or is it more about composition, like you’re placing it near that object so want to start there?
Currently we always import objects to the origin of the scene (0,0,0) because different objects might be broken into pieces but intended to align that way. Some other options could be:
- Import to selection as you described above
- Import to center of current view
- Not at import but have additional controls for “move to this object” or “center to my view” type of functionality.Lots possible here, and none of it is particularly hard, so more understanding the why you want this.

Custom Pivot Points
Can we can we add additional pivot points? Like bottom left, top right, etc.?
12 votesDimension added support for reading custom pivot information when importing models from other sources. We do plan to add the ability to set and edit customized pivots in Dimension in the future.
-
Shadow mat material to catch shadows (or support for additional ground planes)
I do a lot of custom sign design (room sponsorships, donor walls, etc), and produce 3D renderings of them composited into reference photos I take of where the sign will be installed.
The quality of materials and rendering in Adobe Dimension really has me intrigued, but I need a way to place the 3D model vertically and catch the rendered shadow as if it was set against a wall.
In other software, I create a plane with a shadow mat material to catch the shadow, which is then rendered directly on top of the reference photo set as a background…
