      Hi Michele, not much more to add. At the moment we're exploring various import/export improvements, but it isn't something we have yet. We're most immediately working on .GLTF export which is available in our Prerelease program. More formats like .obj are still under evaluation. There is a survey available in the status for this topic I'd recommend taking.

        Hey everyone! We released Dimension 1.1 today with some great new features (you can read more here: https://www.adobe.com/products/dimension/features.html). I figure a lot of people will be wondering where multiple decals is so I wanted to give a status update!

        Unfortunately we weren’t able to get that work in for this release but we’re starting on some great enhancements to the whole material system which includes additional decal/graphic layering, material and placement control for graphics, and more. I’ll announce here when we have something ready for prerelease in a few months!

          Decal resolution is actually based on the model itself. There is a system called UVs, which is a coordinate system that translates the 3D model into 2D space. Depending on how the 3D artist made the model any section of the 3D model has varying resolution related to the UVs.

          We are actively exploring making decals resolution not tied to the object/UV resolution.

          It's definitely planned, but not something we've started on yet. There's a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes that makes this area a little tricky. We will fix it, but have to wait for some components to get caught up. Once we start I will swap the status and you'll get a notification if you're subscribed.

            Hello everyone! Thank you for your votes/comments on adding .more file formats for Dimension. We are actively working on this and near completion on FBX, STL, SKP, and GLTF and are actively working on IGES and other formats. We plan to have some initial formats on our Prerelease soon, and I’ll send another update when that’s ready.

            For now, we’re looking for some user files to help our testing process. We have many files from other sources, but user files are the best way to make sure we’ve covered all the possibilities! If any of you have some files you are able to share with us for testing we’d appreciate your contribution!

            The files will be used only for the purposes of testing features. They will not be shared, sold, distributed, or used for other purposes.

            Our first formats are .fbx and .stl, we're ironing out some bugs with those first. .iges and .stp would be next and I'll let you know when we've started. In the mean time please keep sending your files! It will help us make it more robust when we start dev and less buggy when we start prerelease testing!

              Hi Chris. You can add assets from Stock to your CC Libraries directly on the Stock website or from the CC Libraries in-app Stock search. This topic is more about adding custom assets directly to the Assets panel (different than the Libraries panel). The workflow you've added is available but I agree the interface needs some work!

              Sure! Dimension partnered with Chaos Group and licensed the V-Ray rendering engine for use inside of Dimension CC. It's been used in Dimension since our first beta under Project Felix title and we've worked with Chaos Group closely to improve performance and implementation within Dimension over the past few years. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it.

              The File > Import Material option is for full material packages and currently we only accept the Adobe Standard Material version of .mdl files. You can get these from Adobe Stock or export them from Allegorithmic Substance Painter & Designer.

              If you have .jpg/.png textures you want to use, you can load those directly into the existing materials.
              - Load your object
              - Use one of the material presets like matte, plastic, or wood
              - In the properties panel add the textures into the appropriate slots (color, roughness, metallic, normal, etc.)
              - Adjust the properties as necessary

              @Larry, to answer your questions.

              1 . Dimension can import images as a background image or as a texture to place onto a model but...
              2. ... It cannot take a 2D image and convert it into a 3D model. Here's a great 3 min video on what you can do in Dimension that's a nice starter point! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHeOapHexbE
              3. Models created in Photoshop can be exported as an .obj then imported to Dimension to render.

              Hi Tracy! The Assets panel can't have custom assets right now and is only used to ship presets from Adobe. For custom 3D models use the File > Import > 3D Model menu item.

              Hello! You can add your own images to CC Libraries from Photoshop, Illustrator, and most Adobe applications. You can also add models, materials, and lights that you've gotten from Adobe Stock to CC Libraries. The Assets panel is currently not customizable. Does CC Libraries meet your needs there?

              Hi Ron, not sure I follow your comment. If I understand the initial post this was about being able to add 3D models into the "Assets" panel for reuse. We do support importing 3D models in .obj file format. Can you explain if your comment is the same or different?

                We'll be adding PSD download to cloud rendering directly very soon. There's no very simple way to adjust the shadows alone without cropping them out of the main image and adjusting as a separate layer (which is much easier with the PSD selection layers). We hope to have a new build for you guys on the Prerelease in the next few weeks which will include the PSD export and some new functionality.

                  Thanks for the suggestion! Very interesting. I’m curious what the core thing you’re trying to do is, though.

                  Do you want it to import to the same location so that it’s visible because your camera is looking one way and it’s importing behind you? Or is it more about composition, like you’re placing it near that object so want to start there?

                  Currently we always import objects to the origin of the scene (0,0,0) because different objects might be broken into pieces but intended to align that way. Some other options could be:
                  - Import to selection as you described above
                  - Import to center of current view
                  - Not at import but have additional controls for “move to this object” or “center to my view” type of functionality.

                  Lots possible here, and none of it is particularly hard, so more understanding the why you want this.

                      Hi everyone! I wanted to let you know that we’ve started work on supporting more file formats. We won’t be able to address all of them at the same time. Our initial new formats we’re looking to support will be:

                      .fbx
                      .step
                      .iges
                      .stl

                      When these are available on prerelease I will post an update here with an invitation for you to come try it out! Thank you for the feedback!

                      @fr32c - We're supporting the .fbx format but not animation and rigging yet. If you imported a Mixamo character or animation it would come in static in a pose. Animation support is on our roadmap but not for this year. Supporting .fbx is a step towards that though.

                      @jml - Definitely a good consideration for the .glTF format. We're working on the export first but it's up there for imports as well. Great questions on UVs and tessellation. We're still working on the early stages here but will have that under consideration.

                          It sounds like the model might have UVs that have been mirrored or are overlapping between the inside and outside of the model. We can take a look if you can send the .obj to us (for testing/debugging only).

                            There is a fix in place for the crash on our side and we’ll deliver that in a bug fix patch soon. In the mean time please be sure your images meet the minimum size: 300 pixels wide by 184 pixels tall

                            Hey Eduardo, apologies but the error message in the application is incorrect. It has to be a minimum of 300 x 184, so 150 will still not work. Generally speaking larger images will give better lighting, so I'd recommend selecting images more around 1000 pixels wide, but a minimum of 184.

                                We have a fix in place for the deletion of files when we’re unable to save it and will deliver that live in our next bug patch (in May).

                                We’d love to get some more information from you if you can get into another session that is unable to save so we can prevent that issue all together though. Once you get in that state, close the application and then look for the application logs. There are two called:

                                DimensionGPUProfiler.log
                                Dimension.log

                                And they are located here:

                                Mac: ~/Library/Logs/Adobe/
                                Win: ~\username\appdata\local\Adobe\Dimension

                                If you can send those to tickets@adobedimension.com with a reference comment to the issue or link back to this forum so I can correlate the logs with the problem, that would be extremely helpful.

                                  @ehong We usually only do tutorials for our software, and since Dimension (or other Adobe software) doesn't currently have liquid creation, we won't be creating any tutorials.

                                  At the moment you'd need to use a more complete 3D suite tool such as 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D, etc, and look for a tutorial for the program of your choice.

                                  We're interested in this topic but it's not on the immediate roadmap.

                                    We plan to enable CC Libraries saving for materials, just not done yet!

                                    For the sampler workflow, after you apply the material it will be applied as linked. In the actions panel you can unlink the material to create a copy which you can edit the properties of offset/orientation for each object that you unlink the material for.

                                    @Angela, you can use the Sampler tool to sample and reuse materials in a single scene. Sampling and using a material this way will create a linked material so if you edit it in one place it is edited in other places as well.

                                    We think we can certainly expose this functionality better as well as improve with an actual material save/export for multiple document usage.

                                      @ Mark you could do that today with the existing plane primitive since it's an exact square. Just set the scale to 11x, 1y, 17z and then rotate the plane as necessary. This technique would only work on models like the plane, cube, and sphere, which are perfectly equal on each side. We do plan to have dimension and unit control in the future!

                                        We released Dimension 1.1 today which has some great performance boosts. Scenes now render an average of 20% faster. In our tests the actual increase was up to 67% faster but the gain is variable for the complexity of the scene and the quality of the render.

                                        However, we’re not done and will continue to optimize performance, especially for rendering times. Please enjoy the increase and look forward to more!

                                        We have a separate idea we're tracking cloud rendering status and this idea is primarily about just making local renders faster for those who don't want to use a cloud service. We're making great progress here!

                                        @Kalla - for blurry renders this is usually caused by a usability issue. Go to Design Mode, Select the Environment (in the Scene Panel) and then in the properties turn off Depth of Field. If you have Depth of Field on be sure to open the render preview window to configure it while you're in design mode as the depth of field blur effect can't currently be visualized in the design canvas.

                                        Hi Bryan! Faster rendering has been a key focus for us this cycle and the next release shows marked improvements. Can't announce a release date, but should be soon for an update!

                                        Currently we've benchmarked only the low setting which we've seen an average 95% improvement in final render times.
                                        Please note that it's % based and still highly reliant on your hardware and that high quality is still significantly slower than low.

                                          I'll say that creation is essential to a creative tool for creative people. That said, modeling is a big topic and not a simple task. There are also a ton of existing modeling tools so if we're going to do creation we're going to make sure we do it right and different than what's done already. There is a large section of ideas and suggestions you can vote and comment on for anything that particularly interests you.

                                            There's nothing particular planned yet. We are starting to look into animation workflows but a lot of this year is being focused on refining what we have and expanding materials and graphics, performance, etc. I expect we'll get into this more next year!
