Pixar’s USD is definitely one of the formats we’re keeping our eyes on!
We don't have an exact list of file formats yet, but the ones we're considering first are .dae, .stl and .fbx as they are widely used and will allow us to start supporting some more advanced features.
A unified 3D format is something the entire industry is working towards, Pixar's USD and Microsoft 3MF are examples of this.

Great suggestions. Can definitely see how that would be helpful for orienting and arranging things.

Do you mean turning off the visualization of the active render?

I think you can upload video attachments right here!
A live link preview would be very useful! Would you want to link via local saved files or through CC Libraries smart objects?
Hi Santraj! Thanks for the suggestion - I've split this into two posts so we can track them easier. :)
In regards to Live PSD Preview can you talk more about how you'd want to use this? Do you want to have a background image that you can edit in PS, save the document and have Felix update it in real time?

For the first release we only support .obj file format import.
Great suggestion – any particular reason why you would want to use Lux or your specific 3rd party renderer?
Since we're in our early days there's a lot of optimization we can do to make our rendering much faster and provide those cool features for customizing the render. Assuming we had all that would you still want a 3rd party renderer? If so, why?
We’ve started some design work for basic parametric primitives, 3D shapes like cubes, cones, spheres, etc, that can be used to build up some fundamentals to work with.
I will update you all as we move forward on this!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Hello everyone! The Dimension team is very interested in the topic of creation/modeling/editing as a whole. We haven’t added any creation so far, but are actively researching this area. We have a new survey on modeling and editing and would love your thoughts on the topic!
It would be great to know what you want to do with those tools - do you want more traditional 2D drawing tools on top of the 3D in a layer or do you want to draw and create shapes in 3D?
Can you talk about where you’d like to move it or why? Do you want to just move it or also resize? Break to a second monitor?
Hi @edsager - can you clarify on this? This conversation is about the render preview screen which is in the design mode already. Are you asking to tear off the entire design mode screen as well and have that rendering while you work in design mode? Might be a different feature request ;D
Thanks for the suggestion! Can I ask for a bit more detail? Would you want to define an area of the screen and have that keep rendering even if you change your camera? Or just like a quick “Show me this area” then it goes away?
Thanks for the suggestion! I can see how that could be useful to see a specific area instead of the whole thing.

Great suggestion. I can see how this could be really powerful for producing high quantities of renders. Thanks for expanding on why you would find it useful!
Great suggestion! We definitely want to allow for much more customized selections in the future. You said you’d like to cut out part of the model as well, can you say more about what you mean? Do you want to ‘cut it out’ as a new model?
Quickly select everything in an area by dragging the cursor in the viewport to create a selection area.AdminJeanette Mathews (Product Manager, Dimension) supported this idea ·
While we started work on this a while ago we actually decided to wait on it. We’re reviewing this again.AdminJeanette Mathews (Product Manager, Dimension) shared this idea ·
