Hello everyone! I’m very happy to say we have not only gotten M1 Rosetta emulation working for Stager but were also able to quickly get it working on Dimension as well.

For anyone who is interested in early access to help us test this version of Dimension or Stager, please use this invitation link to down the build from our prerelease program:

    https://www.adobeprerelease.com/beta/84B24C36-9306-4AC4-8D7F-5188FF267621/participate/8CD91A3E-C035-48AF-DFF8-3C0B03B87DA1

I want to apologize again for the extremely long wait on this topic, and thank you for your patience.

If you have any issues using the builds, please leave a comment on the prerelease program forums so we can track the issues!

If all goes well we will roll this out officially in September as new Dimension & Stager releases.

I’ve spent the summer figuring out how to use Cinema 4D to do, in days and days, what I did in dimension in hours. That being said, je ne regrette rien! Glad to learn stuff, but awfully happy that Dimension is coming back, and super psyched to try Stager. Thanks for your hard work!

Jeanette, your last response answered most of the questions people are asking.

Unfortunately, the response is buried in comments.

You should consider pinning that post, or writing a post that explains the long timeframe. That there is work ahead, that people should not check the cc app and this forum daily.

Bonus points: collect emails on to an m1 list to notify when either dimension or stager can be downloaded for M1. That would take the responsibility off users completely, they don’t have to check again and again.

such a list could also be generated by asking the cc system about which users have downloaded and used Dimension, + have since set up cc on an M1.

    Hope this helps.

    This is completely off topic:

@晓林 吴 I do not think that everyone dislikes china because they don't take holidays. In fact, I didn't know this was the case. Americans don't take holidays either. American companies may chose to, but their system and culture isn't very friendly to workers rights. Europeans look at these cultures and, well, worry. It does not seem very healthy. But that is all. American companies with extensive holidays usually do that to accommodate European workers, who are used to that.
As far as the heat dissipation issue with the Air: I think that's why you shouldn't buy it. I paid more for my MBP especially for the fans - because I do high-intensity computing tasks like 3d rendering and complex music software. My Macs always make fan noise. So I know I need the fans. And this isn't the case with everyone. Most graphic design isn't processor intensive anymore. Photoshop work is just short spurts of computing, layout only moves past that when you are exporting large pdfs. But anything with rendering shouldn't be done on an Air. It's probably a wonder of engineering as far as heat management goes, but buying the machine with the fans is just not all that more expensive, and it exists just for this reason.

Yeah this is total clarity I'd say. Hard to fault this.

    Thank you Jeanette.

Thanks for the input Jeanette. I understand that you need to keep product announcements under wraps, but any insights like these help us put things into perspective. "Prioritizing investigations for M1 emulation" is stil a vague descriptor though. I'm prioritizing a few things that I'm still not working on, but I just feel more guilty about neglecting those than others.

The language still doesn't really confirm that anything can be expected. One can imagine a lot of scenarios still. Adobe is not the only company adrift on the seas of Apple Silicon, so is Native Instrument with their flagship Massive X music software synthesizer.

The worst thing I can imagine is that Apple will fix this in the next generation of hardware, which would leave us with a very unwise hardware investnment. While this would not be Adobe's fault (or indeed NI's), and NDAs would not let any developers tell clients about this, a lot can be gleaned just by honest descriptions on how development is coming along, if it's likely to land or, as you say, something to "investigate".
It's very understandable that you avoid promises. So I would not expect to get solid timelines.
But anything that help us imagine what is going on could push aside the more lively scenarios one imagines when things get weird and information is scarce.

Also, it'd be nice if something would be done for us, once everything is figured out.A few months of special trial of the new software might smooth things over very well. Just saying :)

I hate to have to state this plainly, but Adobe Dimension was promised, and that it was being worked on... Well, you would assume that. I assumed it was, because... well, I'm dumb, right? I feel dumb.

This cost me business and reputation. I am crestfallen that Adobe still doesn't take their reputation and trust honestly. This is my third time on this merry-go-round, the first two were Freehand and Fireworks.

I hate, I really, truly hate, when I feel stupid for trusting.

This has been really really bad. These are peoples livelyhoods and reputations.

Since we are supposed to pay extra for this product, please just be honest.

It's rare to meet a product launch for a software you've been excited for and you've evangelised a lot and... you feel screwed, and you feel that you should not invest time, because you cannot trust this company.

I bought the M1 because dimension crapped out on my 2015 mac, and adobe's main site was vague on compatability.

Again. Trust. It cost you trust when you futz and when you lie by omission.

Anyone who has taken on responsibilities because of trust in Dimension as a product must now use exponentially more complicated and expensive products to deliver on that misplaced trust.

If adobe had been honest, us who lost in the computer lottery and had to replace hardware in this weird period, we could have saved the ire for apple.

Adobe needs to figure out how to do the PR here, and that means finding ways to communicate honestly, based on a knowledge of the basic needs of working clients.

There is a growing movement of people who actively try to push competing software, simply because adobe controls too much of the market.

These few months made me feel like freelancers like me don't matter. Not beause the software didn't materialise. But because you couldn't just be honest. That would have been enough.

Some of us teach graphic design too, and while we're to stuck in this adobe mess, we can at least teach the kids why supporting the Affinity suite and other competing products is an investment in their job security.

Or you could just be honest.

There's nothing like Adobe Dimension in terms of simplicity and relative render quality, but if you are completely screwed by this, Vectary is affordable, web-based (chrome only tho) and fairly easy to understand.
I'm going to fulfill my commitments that I was to do in Dimension with Cinema 4D, but it costs much more than the entire Adobe Suite, and it'll take me at least 4x more time, so I'll be losing quite a bit of money on the project.
    So disappointed in Adobe here.
I feel a little sad posting this here, since it is obvious that the people tasked with Dimension are doing their best, and the larger company isn't responding to the problem with added resources.
In general, the app seems to linger quite a bit, features are slow to come, which must affect useage statistics, which is probably why the app development doesn't get a lot of resources.
Adobe should commit to building Dimension out to what it could be - A 3D app that is simple enough for Graphic Designers to use, to create scenes that do not need complex parameters.
It could be truly spectacular, a real gamechanger, if Adobe would just decide to do that.

I’m in a jam, had to get a new mac, now I can’t download or run Dimension. I was in the middle of a big job, freelance, using the application.
Would it be possible to access a prerelease version of Dimension once it’s up and running?
It would really save me from a pretty bad situation.

Hello all! While it’s a bit too early to give specifics, I wanted to say interop with After Effects is planned.

I’ve seen some users doing it already by exporting the 3D object from Dimension in .obj and other formats, then importing to Ae and plugins like Video CoPilot.

A more direct integration is something we’d love to do!

This is a feature request for aftereffects. If you want to be heard, go there :)
Dimension does export objects. It’s not great, but it is there.
There are some 3rd party things that do 3d in ae, but i have no experience, so I can’t advise.

Today Dimension allows you to queue multiple camera views in Render mode. We’re working to expand this system to multiple configurations of one scene as well as working on automation features for rendering multiple documents.

Will provide more information as we get further along!

You should be able to export as obj, open in photoshop, do it there. Not sure it is what you need, but its a workaround. Also voting for feature.

Substance materials are considerably more complex than the 3D in Dimension. I’m with you, want this too, but given the slow progress, you might want to try a bigger 3D program like Cinema 4D, that does Substance. Not sure if the c4d that comes with aftereffects can use substance, but it is certainly worth a look.
