Hey everyone! Today we announced the release of a new app – Adobe Substance 3D Stager.

Stager builds on the foundation of Dimension but has a completely reworked infrastructure and is built for pro audiences.

Stager includes a new material model that provides a ton of new controls including displacement and tessellation.

In addition Stager’s material model supports sheen, clear coat, anisotropy, subsurface scattering, dispersion, and much more!

You can find more information about Stager here:

I know how to create a normal map from a bump in photoshop, but bump maps are easier to create and edit, because of that some workflows works better if you don't have to always convert bump maps to normal. Knowing how a render works it would be quite easy to add bump mapping.

Hey all, just wanted to give a little update on Animation for Dimension. We believe animation is an important part of working with 3D and do plan to include animation features in the future, however it will not be for 2019. Likely this will start in 2020 but I’ll update as we get closer!

You could start adding simple camera animation for product visualization and latter object animation as well.
    But please add keyframe!

Thanks for the suggestion! Can I ask for a bit more detail? Would you want to define an area of the screen and have that keep rendering even if you change your camera? Or just like a quick “Show me this area” then it goes away?

We definitely need a region render, when setting up a material we don't want the entire render window do refresh, just a small part.

I think the advantages of painting in Felix is that we can see the results right in the render preview.

The latest release of Dimension now includes. a control preset for Substance Painter which is similar to the 3D industry standard of Alt being the main camera control activator.

However, this only controls the camera presets, not additional tools like WER for move, rotate, scale.

We’d love some feedback from anyone who tries out this preference on whether camera controls being similar to other 3D apps is helpful without additional controls presets for other tools like the transform tools.

We wanted to let you guys know that we have started this feature along with a few other new camera updates. Hopefully in the next released version of Dimension we will ship with the ability to align the camera to a face. Currently, it is implemented within the Orbit tool, so you can just double click on a face with the Orbit tool active (or cmd+double right click with any tool active) and the camera will move to look at that point, aligned to the surface. This can help with aligning decals to surfaces. You can see a prototype of this working in the attached gif.

Today Dimension allows you to queue multiple camera views in Render mode. We’re working to expand this system to multiple configurations of one scene as well as working on automation features for rendering multiple documents.

Will provide more information as we get further along!

It would be great if we could turn an object into matte like we do in VRay. This option make the object invisible in the final render but still produce and generate shadow and interact with the lighting. This is great to put objects into real scenes.
You can check VRay docs about the matte properties: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3MAX/Object+and+Light+Properties#ObjectandLightProperties-MatteProperties

It looks like the base plane already have this option, it would just need to extend to other objects as an option.

Work for multiple view windows hasn’t begun and is still in review. While we understand the value of multiple viewports we have a good bit of work to do on improving the one viewport we currently have. We’re focusing on the current composition, bookmark and render experience for this year but will probably start looking into multiple cameras and viewports more next year.

I second that, we should have a camera viewport that you can fix and a perspective, top, front and left viewport that you can use while positioning objects in the scene.
Imagine the situation that you create a shot and then need to do some adjustment, you will need to move the camera and it will be hard to get to the same position.
It would also be great to have multiple cameras in the scene.
